Full Grain Leather vs. Top Grain Leather

Every time when buying genuine leather bag we don’t even think about the  type of leather it is made... Which can tell you a lot about the quality of the particular bag you are interested in. Let me to present two of the most popular leather types:

The highest quality leather is full grain. Why? According to Baltic Domini, it is because the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal is below the hair. It means that the hide is taken pretty much straight from the animal and made into an item. It has all the markings from its life - you can see where the hair was pulled out of or where an insect bit it. Full grain leather is the strongest and most durable leather.  What is more, over time, full grain leather will look even better and develop a patina from being handled. And you know what? You want let this happen!

The next best is top grain which is similar to full-grain leather, except that the top have been sanded and buffed to take away imperfections. In other words, top grain leather is full grain with the top layer sanded and buffed for a more streamline, polished look but it won't be as durable.  However, top grain leather is the second strongest leather.

Time Resistance leather products are made from full grain leather. However, it is very important to understand that even the highest quality leather can have small irregularities and imperfections. For example,  markings of wire fence, insect bites, fatty areas and neck wrinkles, even vein marks. These slight imperfections show each product's natural individuality and handcrafted nature.

P.S. Every leather artsisan knows - behind all the quality standards, the passion and  inspiration are essential to create a piece of perfection, something that you could proud of!
